Brazilian Butt Lift

Butt Implants

These procedures are great options for gluteal enhancement. Both can create a rounded and lifted shape. Butt implants may be a good option for people with a smaller, leaner frame who don't have enough fat for a Brazilian butt lift (BBL). However, butt implant surgery has a longer recovery and higher complication rate.

Summary

The size and shape of the buttock is determined largely by genetics. While diet and exercise can certainly help you obtain a shapelier behind, sometimes it’s not possible to get the shape you want with diet and exercise alone. There are several different options for butt augmentation surgery, depending on the patient’s needs, Brazilian Butt Lift, Butt Implants, or Supercharged BBL.

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) involves a process of fat grafting to the buttocks. Fat from one or more areas of your body, such as the stomach, thighs, or lower back, will be extracted, processed, and injected into your buttocks. The fat transfer method reshapes rather than enlarges the rear, which allows for precise buttock shaping that accentuates the butt, waist and thighs and complements each patient’s body type.

If you do not have enough fat to be removed, you can opt for butt implants. Some patients think they may not have enough fat to harvest, but our surgeons find enough to make a lasting change. Butt implants are also a good choice if you desire a more dramatic look and you want a significant increase in the size of your buttocks.

A supercharged Brazilian butt lift involves performing butt implant surgery simultaneously with a Brazilian Butt Lift, your supercharged Brazilian Butt Lift will begin with the implantation of silicone butt implants. This is the most significant difference between a regular BBL and a supercharged one. The implants are made of cohesive silicone that mimics the weight and consistency of natural buttock muscle tissues. The incisions are made along natural creases in the buttocks to conceal scarring. The procedure enhances the appearance of the implants and helps to secure them in place. Fat can be placed in the laterals, hips, and thighs to create your desired contour.

What is Post Liposuction Lymphatic Drainage Massage & Do I Need it After a BBL/supercharged BBL?

For patients who choose to have a Brazilian Butt Lift or a Supercharged BBL, you will need to undergo a few post-liposuction lymphatic drainage massages.

Lymphatic Drainage also referred to as Manual Lymphatic Drainage, or “MLD” for short, is a type of massage therapy that utilizes light massage techniques to increase the flow of the lymph system. Lymph massage is particularly effective at treating patients of liposuction and plastic surgery.

As its name implies, Lymphatic Drainage administers light massage techniques that help unblock the lymph system, allowing it to drain the body of harmful waste materials. Licensed lymph massage therapists effectively massage the lymphatic system which stimulates it into action. Once stimulated, the lymph system drains the body of built-up waste, causing puffiness to dissipate, the immune system to revitalize, and healing to take place.

Lymph drainage massage is often used post-surgery to help with recovery and reduce swelling and scarring. This occurs because the practice stimulates cell and tissue regeneration as well as eliminates toxic substances in the blood which can hinder the healing process.

What should I do Before my Surgery?

The time leading up to your surgery is very important. To get an excellent result from your plastic surgery procedure, there are some checkboxes you'll want to tick leading up to your procedure.

  • Get the lab tests our surgeon instructs, fill out the paperwork we send you, and pay for insurance coverage.

  • STOP SMOKING! WE MEAN IT!  By restricting blood vessels, nicotine decreases the blood flow throughout your body. Plastic surgery is extremely delicate, and your blood vessels play a significant role in the results. If they are restricted, the results are compromised.

  • Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding.

  • As you prepare for surgery, the healthier the foods you eat, the better. Eating foods that are full of vitamins and minerals and that are excellent sources of fiber will help you heal more quickly after the surgery. Certain foods are also great at increasing or promoting skin elasticity, which will help your skin bounce back after the fat is removed.

  • If you drink, please limit your alcohol intake. Please stop drinking altogether 2 weeks prior to surgery.

  • There is no specific weight you need to achieve before getting liposuction with your BBL. However, a key liposuction prep tip is to reach your target weight or at least get close to it. Remember that reaching your goal weight is different from achieving your ideal body. Many people still have stubborn excess fat in specific areas, even after getting within range of their target weight. This is how liposuction can help.

  • For best results, start focusing on building muscles several months before your procedure. In addition to helping you get the look you want sooner after surgery, this can also improve your strength and position you for faster healing. Liposuction does the heavy lifting of removing the stubborn fat that covers those muscles up.

After Surgery

The first night after surgery, you will experience temporary swelling, bruising, pain, tightness, and numbness in the areas where surgery was performed. The first night is the worst (TRUST US).

If you received a Brazilian Butt Lift, you may experience some oozing of fluid from the small access point incisions overnight. These incisions are made so that a narrow tube, or cannula, can be inserted and used to vacuum the layer of fat that lies deep beneath the skin. The cannula is pushed and pulled back and forth through the fat layer, breaking up the fat cells and suctioning them out. The fluid is not actual bleeding but rather it is some of the remaining fluid that was placed during your surgery. Some of this fluid is expected to leave your body after the surgery, so please, don´t be alarmed. You will be placed in a compression garment that must be worn for 6 - 8 weeks except to shower and clean the garment. The pain and discomfort can be controlled with medication.

If you received implants, your recuperation period will be longer than with a Brazilian Butt Lift. You will also experience bruising, pain, and tightness around your buttocks area.  Your surgeon will prescribe antibiotics, anticoagulants, and pain medication for you to take.

The day after your surgery our nurses will help you shower or sponge bathe (depending on how you feel and the procedure you got), and evaluate your dressings and the operation sites. It is totally normal for you to not be able to walk standing straight at first, but you should start light walking as soon as possible to help your body heal faster. (In small quantities of course) . You will have your first control appointment with your surgeon and then you will go back to the hotel.

The first week after your surgery, if you received liposuction (Brazilian Butt Lift) you will be getting daily lymphatic drainage massages and we will be encouraging you to take small walks frequently throughout the day, this helps bring down the swelling and allows your body to recover much faster. You will have a second control appointment with your doctor on Day 3 and then another on Day 7. At this point, you will still be swollen and bruised. Your body is still recovering. Some post-operative patients may notice bruising for several weeks after surgery. It can take anywhere from a week to several weeks to go away completely.  Sun exposure to the bruises can promote darkening of the areas and delay the lightening process.

You will be given a tight-fitting compression garment to wear after surgery to reduce swelling. The garment must be worn for up to six to eight weeks after surgery, it should only be taken off to shower and clean it. (Don't worry we provide you with 2 so that you can always feel nice and clean).

You will have one last face-to-face control appointment with your doctor on Day 14 - 21 (depending on the severity of your procedure) and he will clear you to go home.

The first month after your surgery, if you are still feeling tired, and a bit sore at this point, don´t worry, it will take a few weeks or months to feel completely like yourself again after surgery.  Post-operative swelling can last for several months, you should be able to see your full, final results within 3 - 6 months of the procedure. Your incisions should be fully healed but it is possible that the scars will still be red and raised, don´t worry, eventually, they will become flat and fade.

This period is often called the “roller coaster” time period because you will go through mixed emotions of excitement, frustration, and happiness as you come to grips with your new body and the overall recovery process.  Almost all patients go through this period of discovery, learning, and healing. You must keep looking forward and realize that over the next several months you will begin to enjoy your new body and its dramatic transformation from surgery.

All of this information and more will be discussed with you during your initial consultation with one of our surgeons. If you have any additional questions we will be happy to answer them over a quick phone call, text, or email.
