Overview
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are placed into the jawbone to support a replacement tooth or bridge. They are typically made of titanium, a biocompatible material accepted by the body, and they can be used to replace one or more missing teeth.

The implant is a small, screw-like post placed into the jawbone. Once the implant is in place, the bone grows around it, creating a strong and stable foundation for the replacement tooth. A connector post, called an abutment, is then attached to the implant, and this supports the replacement tooth which can be a dental crown, bridge, or denture.

Dental implants are a popular and effective solution for replacing missing teeth. They look and feel like natural teeth and can help to restore a person's ability to chew, speak and smile. They also help to preserve the jawbone and prevent the shrinkage that can occur when teeth are missing.

The procedure for placing dental implants is a surgical one and it's important to have a consultation with one of our dental professionals to determine if you're a good candidate for the procedure and to discuss the benefits, limitations, and risks of the treatment.

Dental implants are a popular and effective solution for replacing missing teeth, but not everyone is a good candidate for the procedure. Here are some factors that a dental professional will consider when determining if someone is a good candidate for dental implants:

Adequate jawbone density: Dental implants need to be securely anchored in the jawbone, so candidates should have enough healthy bone to support the implant.
Good oral health: Candidates should have healthy gums and enough space in their mouths to accommodate the implant.
Non-smokers: Smoking can increase the risk of implant failure, so candidates should be non-smokers or willing to quit smoking before and after the procedure.
Healthy medical history: Certain medical conditions, such as uncontrolled diabetes or cancer, can increase the risk of implant failure.
Willingness to maintain good oral hygiene: Dental implants require regular maintenance and care, and candidates should be willing to maintain good oral hygiene practices to ensure the long-term success of the implant.

Age: Dental Implants are not recommended for children, as their jawbones are still developing. Elderly patients can also have health conditions that may make the procedure more complicated.

What to Expect After a Dental Implant Procedure
After dental implant surgery, patients can expect some discomfort and swelling in the mouth and jaw area. Our doctors will typically prescribe pain medication to help manage any discomfort. It is important to follow the surgeon's post-operative instructions for care, which may include avoiding certain foods, avoiding smoking, and keeping the implant site clean.
You will have stitches in your gums that will be removed in a follow-up visit. You may also experience some bleeding, swelling, and pain in the first few days after the surgery, these symptoms should subside within a week.

You must keep in mind that it is possible for a dental implant to be placed in a single visit, but it is not typical. A typical dental implant procedure involves surgical placement of the implant into the jawbone, followed by a healing period of several months.
The implant needs to be placed into the jawbone and given time to osseointegrate or fuse with the bone. This process can take several months, depending on the individual case. After this process, the permanent restoration (crown, bridge, or denture) is placed on top of the implant. However, there are some cases where single-visit implant placement is done. It's called immediate loading or same-day loading, these procedures are done by experienced surgeons with specific protocols, equipment, and implant designs.

It is important to note that immediate loading may not be suitable for every patient, and a traditional two-stage implant placement may be recommended in certain cases.
