Mommy Makeover
The goal of a mommy makeover is to enhance a woman's appearance and self-confidence by addressing the physical changes that occur after pregnancy and childbirth.
While the term "mommy makeover" suggests that the procedure is only for women who have had children, the surgery can be beneficial for anyone who wants to address multiple areas of their body with a single surgical session.

Overview
While the experience of parenthood can bring immeasurable joy, the effects of pregnancy and childbirth can change your body in many significant and often unwanted ways. A mommy makeover is a combination of various plastic surgery procedures to help you regain your pre-baby shape or achieve the body contours you have always dreamed of.
Every mommy makeover is unique and customized to meet every patient’s personal goals. Depending on the patient’s desires, a mommy makeover can include a breast augmentation or reduction, breast lift, tummy tuck, and liposuction/Brazilian butt lift all in one operation.
These procedures collectively address the most common effects of birthing and breastfeeding on a woman’s body: weight gain and skin stretching in the abdomen, and loss of firmness and possible “deflation” in the breasts. The advantage of a mommy makeover is that the results are achieved all at once, and the recovery times for multiple procedures are combined.

Ideal candidate for a Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover is designed for individuals who enjoy general good health and have realistic expectations of what the procedure can do for them. If you are someone who has had children and pregnancies have stretched your abdominal muscles and skin beyond a point where they can return to normal you are a great candidate for surgery. The ideal patient is already at or near their ideal body weight, is finished with childbearing, and does not smoke or drink excessively.

Patients getting liposuction as part of their Mommy Makeover must undergo Lymphatic Drainage Massages unless otherwise recommended by our surgeons.

What is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

Lymphatic Drainage also referred to as Manual Lymphatic Drainage, or “MLD” for short, is a type of massage therapy that utilizes light massage techniques to increase the flow of the lymph system. Lymph massage is particularly effective at treating patients hat underwent liposuction and plastic surgery.

As its name implies, Lymphatic Drainage administers light massage techniques that help unblock the lymph system, allowing it to drain the body of harmful waste materials. Licensed lymph massage therapists effectively massage the lymphatic system which stimulates it into action. Once stimulated, the lymph system drains the body of built-up waste, causing puffiness to dissipate, the immune system to revitalize, and healing to take place.

Lymph drainage massage is often used post-surgery to help with recovery and reduce swelling and scarring. This occurs because the practice stimulates cell and tissue regeneration as well as eliminates toxic substances in the blood which can hinder the healing process.

What should I do Before my Surgery?

The time leading up to your surgery is very important. To get an excellent result from your plastic surgery procedure, there are some checkboxes you'll want to tick leading up to your procedure.
-
Get the lab tests our surgeon instructs, fill out the paperwork we send you, and pay for insurance coverage.
-
STOP SMOKING! WE MEAN IT! By restricting blood vessels, nicotine decreases the blood flow throughout your body. Plastic surgery is extremely delicate, and your blood vessels play a significant role in the results. If they are restricted, the results are compromised.
-
Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding.
-
If you’ve been working to lose weight before liposuction, you might have already changed your diet. As you prepare for surgery, the healthier the foods you eat, the better. Eating foods that are full of vitamins and minerals and that are excellent sources of fiber will help you heal more quickly after the surgery. Certain foods are also great at increasing or promoting skin elasticity, which will help your skin bounce back after the fat is removed.
-
There is no specific weight you need to achieve before getting liposuction. However, a key liposuction prep tip is to reach your target weight or at least get close to it. Remember that reaching your goal weight is different from achieving your ideal body. Many people still have stubborn excess fat in specific areas, even after getting within range of their target weight. This is how liposuction can help.
-
For best results, start focusing on building muscles several months before your procedure. In addition to helping you get the look you want sooner after surgery, this can also improve your strength and position you for faster healing. Liposuction does the heavy lifting of removing the stubborn fat that covers those muscles up.

After Surgery

The first night after surgery, you will experience temporary swelling, bruising, pain, tightness, and numbness in the areas where surgery was performed. The pain and discomfort can be controlled with medication. If you received a tummy tuck as part of your surgery, you will require the use of a drain for the first 3-7 days to direct the excess fluid away from the incision and out of the body. Your abdomen will be secured with an abdominal binder, which is later exchanged for a compression garment. The compression garment must be worn for 6 – 8 weeks to achieve optimal results.

The day after your surgery our nurses will help you shower or sponge bathe (depending on how you feel), evaluate your dressings, and help you with your drain tubes. It is totally normal for you to not be able to stand straight at first, but you should start light walking as soon as possible to help your body heal faster. (In small quantities of course) If you had a Tummy Tuck or Breast Lift, you might feel tightness in those areas. When it comes to a Brazilian Butt Lift, you should avoid sitting down as much as possible. Your surgeon will prescribe antibiotics, anticoagulants, and pain medication for you to take.

The first week after your surgery, you will be getting daily lymphatic drainage massages and we will be encouraging you to take small walks frequently throughout the day, this helps bring down the swelling and allows your body to recover much faster. You will have a second control appointment with your doctor on Day 3 and then another on Day 7. At this point, you will still be swollen and bruised. Your body is still recovering. Some post-operative patients may notice bruising for several weeks after liposuction. The bruising can take anywhere from a week to several weeks to go away completely. Sun exposure to the bruises can promote the darkening of the areas and delay the lightening process.
Our chef will make sure your diet is low in sodium to reduce swelling. At this point you will still experience pain, bruising, swelling, and tightness the first week after surgery. You will have a checkup appointment with your doctor, and he will decide if it is time to remove the mesh strip bandage.

The second week after surgery, you will still be swollen in the treatment area but the pain, bruising, and feeling of tightness will slowly start to go away. You should still be wearing your compression garment, only taking it off to shower and clean it. At this point, you will be accompanied on walks a few times throughout the day to get your blood flowing. By this time you should already notice a significant change in your appearance, despite the swelling.

The first month after your surgery, if you are still feeling tired, and a bit sore at this point, don´t worry, it will take a few weeks or months to feel completely like yourself again after surgery. Post-operative swelling can last for several months, you should be able to see your full, final results within 3 - 6 months of the procedure. The tummy tuck incision should be fully healed but it is possible that the scar will still be red and raised, don´t worry, eventually, it will become flat and fade.

This period is often called the “roller coaster” time period because you will go through mixed emotions of excitement, frustration, and happiness as you come to grips with your new body and the overall recovery process. Almost all patients go through this period of discovery, learning, and healing. You must keep looking forward and realize that over the next several months you will begin to enjoy your new body and its dramatic transformation from surgery.

All of this information and more will be discussed with you during your initial consultation with one of our surgeons. If you have any additional questions we will be happy to answer them over a quick phone call, text, or email.
